The state’s increase of about 121,000 people was the fifth-largest overall in the country per the most recent analysis of US Census data. North Carolina’s population jumped by around 18 percent, to more than 9.5 million, between 2000 and 2010, according to the Census. Wednesday’s figures, which were estimates for population growth between April 1, 2010 and July 1, 2011, showed the overall national rate at roughly 0.92 percent, an addition of about 2.8 million people.
